It all originates
with an idea.
My work focuses on Concerted Viewing- it is intended to have the viewer slow down, pause, evoke and hopefully, reveal.
At times it may center on things that are so minute they go unperceived. In other instances, I want to capture what lies beneath- to tell the story veiled behind a gaze or the weathering of metal to declare the ethereal passage of time, but not always limited to the physical. There is always an emotion, an antecedent to the state of things.
The result is either straight forward or begs for manipulation.
I chose to print on watercolor / textured paper rather than photographic paper for a greener, more organic result.
I try to build upon the chronicle that unfolds before me and develop its meaning.
I am currently a social worker that fights for the rights of the underserved and underrepresented. I this line of work I hear and help with trauma every day- so this artistic expression is my way of working through that daily exposure.
Creating, capturing, altering, allows me to regain my balance and continue to help the community I serve while preserving my well-being.
